The integrated, multi-function i Series Appliance provides the strong IT Security that has become essential in today's IT environment where corporate assets and employee productivity are constantly threatened by hackers who have developed new, blended security threats capable of attacking stand-alone VPN and firewall products. Since malicious code uses several techniques to uncover the multiple entry points and vulnerabilities in a network, a proactive network perimeter security solution must incorporate multiple well-integrated functionalities. The i Series Appliance delivers this type of protection through its Unified Threat Management approach. N-Dimension's security solution includes a Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) Firewall, support for Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), Intrusion Detection based on 5,000 sensors, Gateway Anti-Virus capabilities, Port Scan, Proxy Server, and Vulnerability Scan which delivers an automated mini-Security Assessment.

Monitoring & Performance Measurement

In the area of Monitoring & Performance Measurement, the i Series Appliance integrates functionalities which are usually available only from stand-alone IT monitoring devices. The i Series Appliance maximizes the availability of IT resources by monitoring SNMP-capable devices and by delivering alerts to IT support personnel remotely, anywhere at any time.

Infrastructure

Deploying an IT infrastructure solution used to mean installing multiple devices, each delivering a particular functionality. By contrast, the i Series Appliance provides numerous Infrastructure functions within its fully integrated package. Those functions include DNS Server, DHCP, NAT router, Network Time Server, and System Log Server.

Software and Hardware Platforms

The i Series Appliance is based on the N-Dimension Operating System, n-OS, a Linux-based platform specifically optimized for N-Dimension's appliances. n-OS delivers run-time efficiency and high reliability.

The i Series Appliance delivers robust hardware designs and high-performance engines for high reliability and excellent throughput. Two hardware platforms are available:

  • the i240 is a high performance, small-footprint, desktop Appliance; it is well-suited to office environments with its fanless enclosure and low power consumption.
  • The i440 is a cost-effective 1U rackmount Appliance that delivers performance, manageability and serviceability.
